Run a live world

Eight editorial observation exercises from the supplied field school. These are prompts to investigate, not reports of hands-on testing.

Instrument the funnel

Track arrival, first action, first success and the choice to continue without reducing fun to one metric.

Graph the largest drop between two meaningful actions.

Read retention by cohort

New players from different devices, regions or updates may behave differently.

Compare return patterns before and after one specific change.

Plan an update rhythm

A calendar balances fresh goals, fixes, seasonal moments and time for deeper systems work.

Mark which updates create content and which reduce friction.

Protect the economy

Every currency needs understood sources, sinks, prices and inflation signals.

List where value enters and leaves during one session.

Run a live incident

Ownership, status messages, mitigation and recovery matter as much as the fix itself.

Write a one-page outage checklist before needing it.

Localize the experience

Translation must include layout, images, cultural context and QA—not only string replacement.

Find three interface lines that expand badly in another language.

Moderate the edge cases

Names, chat, decals, audio, user-built spaces and custom text each create different review paths.

Inventory every surface where one player can affect another.

Measure without chasing noise

Visits and CCU describe scale; completion, return and satisfaction explain whether the world works.

Pair every headline metric with one diagnostic metric.
